Have You Ever Done Something That Scares You?
Have you ever done something that scares you?
I think everyone has something that makes them sweat, whether it is a fear of heights, a fear of flying, or like me, speaking in front of a live audience. I don’t mind doing video (as long as no one is in the room with me) but the thought of standing in front of a large group and giving a speech makes me feel nauseated. I actually get butterflies just writing that down!! But put me on a plane to travel half way around the world, piece of cake, bathe an elephant, cook for 20 people, no problem, stand up to speak, no thanks!
When I started Wanderlust Scarves I didn’t really think about public speaking being important to my business, but like everything, my plans have evolved. I now see how being able to share more about my business and my plans for the future, in a confident, clear and concise manner will be a big advantage for me.
One of the things I have thought about for years is joining a Toastmasters group and thanks to a friend who invited me to an open house at her Toastmasters group, I think I have found my group too. I love the concept of a safe and supportive place to learn and hone my speaking (and listening) skills.
Why am I sharing this with you? Well, mostly as a reminder that sometimes things are hard and scary, but are still a great idea. I encourage you to try something that scares you a bit because on the other side of that fear is an amazing sense of accomplishment.
I have only just joined Toastmasters but just making that first step has already given me a boost of confidence.
I am not sure who said this but I LOVE it and I often repeat it to my self “Success comes at the end of your comfort zone”.
What are you going to do to get out of your comfort zone?
